Inspect before the first outfit
Look over the garment in good light, including seams, lining, hems and fastenings. Check for marks or damage and compare what arrived with the description and order details. If something is wrong, photograph it clearly and contact the retailer rather than attempting a repair immediately.
Read the care label and confirm that the cleaning routine is practical for you. A shirt that looked convenient online may need more care than you expected. It is better to notice that before wearing it through a full day.
Try it with the clothes it will meet
Wear the intended underlayer and shoes, and check the complete outfit. Sit, walk and reach naturally while keeping the garment clean and in appropriate condition. Look at sleeve length, pocket behaviour and any pulling that appears in movement.
Compare it with a similar item you already use successfully, but allow for a deliberately different cut. The aim is not to make every purchase identical. It is to establish whether the new piece offers the comfort and function you expected, rather than merely looking appealing for a moment.
Decide within the actual process
Read the retailer's current return instructions and deadlines, and keep relevant packaging and order records while deciding. Policies and circumstances vary; do not rely on an assumed universal rule about tags or return periods.
Once you decide to keep the garment, note any care information you might need later and put spare buttons somewhere identifiable. If you decide against it, follow the stated process promptly. Leaving an uncertain purchase in its bag for weeks makes it easier to miss a practical next step without bringing you closer to wearing it.
