Start with the collar

Try the neckline fastened and then slightly open. The collar should sit comfortably rather than pressing against your neck or collapsing beneath another layer. If the knit is fine, check whether an underlayer shows more clearly when the top button is open.

Different plackets create different effects. A short buttoned opening feels unlike an open V-neck polo, even when both have the same collar shape. Choose the version you enjoy wearing rather than treating the name as one fixed style.

Let the hem settle

A ribbed hem may naturally sit at the waistband, while a straight hem falls lower. Pulling a ribbed top down repeatedly can make it feel awkward. Try letting it settle, then look at the amount of fabric above the rib.

With wider trousers, that shorter stopping point can make the outfit easy to read. With a skirt, check that the knit does not catch on pleats or bunch at a raised waistband. A light tuck is possible only if the fabric and fit leave room.

Keep the rest familiar

Straight jeans and loafers offer one simple starting outfit. Tailored trousers can make the same top useful for a work setting with a suitable dress code. Add a jacket and check that the two collars do not fight for space.

When storing the polo, consider the weight of the knit rather than treating it like a woven shirt. Follow its care instructions, and avoid an unsuitable hanger that leaves shoulder marks or pulls the top longer between wears.
